How To Avoid Leg Cramps
Could you tell me how I could avoid leg cramps? On Sunday 11th I ran in the Royal Parks half marathon but at about mile 13 both backs of lower legs started cramping! I finished OK but had the same problem in a training run before the race. It was a 15 miler and at mile 12 the same thing happened. Do you think if I took on board salty food before the run or race it would help stop this ? . . .

Why Am I So Slow?
Why am I so slow? I am 27 and have recently taken up running about 5 months ago, running 2 to 3 times a week most weeks. I first began to train for a 5km run which I managed to do in about 32 minutes but can't seem to get any faster. . . .

Will Running Damage My Internal Organs?
I am starting up cross country training, but I have been hearing that running for women can cause female internal organs to "drop" or become damaged and that it would be a better idea to limit the amount of running. Is this some myth or is their proof that women involved in running affect their internal organs? . . .

Running and Ruptured Knee Ligaments
I used to run cross-country distance for school as a teenager until I ruptured cruciate and lateral ligaments in my left knee in a slip-and-fall during a race. 12 years, and about 5 stone later I am reasonably fit (I ride horses, go hill walking and cycle 7 miles each way to work twice a week) but I would like to get running again. . . .

Running and Sore Knees
I am 57 and ran a 10k earlier this month in 56mins. I would like to do a half marathon once and have signed up for the Glasgow one in September. After the 10k I had sore knees walking downstairs and am a bit worried that they are going to cause me problems when training for the half marathon. . . .

Running and Fatigue
I run 10k twice a week, sometimes more. This involves a lot of hill running so it is quite tough. Throughout the run I try to drink plenty of fluids. The problem is that when I get home, about an hour later I am severely fatigued for the rest of the day. . . .

Running And Weight Loss
Despite getting plenty of exercise and eating a healthy, low calorie diet, I cannot seem to lose any weight! Each week I do body pump twice, spinning once, pilates once and 2 runs of around 3-5k each. I also do a lot of dancing - around 6-8 hours a week- and have an active job where I am on my feet nearly all day. Despite all this, and despite eating a low cal diet, I am still not losing weight. . . .

Here's what our members are saying ...
Thanks Katharine for responding and forwarding my question to Angela and Kate. They provided me with some really good, sound advice to think about and now I will set and implement some realistic goals and quit being so hard on myself. I love R4W! Jo USA
When I became a member I was recovering from a serious injury caused by a car accident. The support I got from the women on the forum was invaluable in my fight back to fitness. I’ve gained in so much confidence and met some great people. It’s the place I come if I need support, encouragement or just a kick sometimes! Best of all it’s a place for just the girls!

R4W has made such a difference to my running and just about every other part of my life! Whether I need training advice or tips, encouragement and support, I have found it on R4W. It’s a unique site, just for women and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Since joining R4W, I have made many friends some of whom I have never even met and I have received more advice, friendship and motivation than I could ever have wished for. I have also achieved many things I once thought were not possible. So a big thanks to all at Running4Women without you none of this would have happened.
